Introducing a New Kind of Adventure: Sidetracked x Challenge Sophie
This special adventure invites you to journey beyond the ordinary. Together with Sophie Radcliffe, founder of Challenge Sophie, we’ll explore the frozen beauty of the Arctic while diving into powerful coaching designed to help you grow, connect, and rediscover what’s possible in both adventure and life.
As usual we will spend our days chasing the Northern Lights, snowshoeing through quiet forests, and giving fat biking over the fells a go. You’ll also get to drive your own team of Huskies, learn to backcountry Nordic ski, and, of course, relax in a traditional Finnish sauna. With a cosy log cabin as your home base, our friendly guide will take you on a new adventure everyday, showing you all the best ways to enjoy this stunning wilderness. Between adventures, Sophie will lead transformative coaching workshops to help you turn challenge into opportunity and adventure into lasting change.

We will teach you to use Nordic backcountry skis, snowshoe up fells and ride a fat bike on the snow. The challenging overnight trip to Wilderness cabin will require you to ski 15km each way to the hut so you need to have a good level of fitness. (This trip is optional, you can also remain at the log cabin for the night instead)
If you’re looking for an authentic Lapland experience and want to experience all that the magical winter has to offer then this is perfect for you. The trip is perfect if you’d like to learn some new skills every day with the comfort of a cozy basecamp cabin for the week.

WHAT SHOULD I PACK?
For some handy tips on what you might want to pack click here
WHERE DO I FLY TO?
Ivalo airport is a short bus journey from the starting point of our trip or Rovaniemi airport is around 3.5hrs from the starting point. Always check the bus times before you book your flights as buses do not run after every flight.
How do I get to the cabin?
If you fly into Ivalo airport there is a local transfer bus after every flight that can drop you off 10 minutes away from the cabin. The busses are less frequent from Rovaniemi so it’s worth checking before you book.
What time do we need to arrive?
We meet at 5pm in our cabin on the first day of the trip and you are free to leave anytime on the final day of the trip as there are no activities planned.
WHAT SHOULD MY SKIING/SNOWSHOE ABILITY BE?
You don’t need any previous experience we will teach you everything you need to know but you will need a good level of fitness to enjoy the trip. If you have skied before it will help with the basics but the skiing style is quite different so it will be a new experience for you.
WHAT WILL THE GROUP SIZE BE?
We keep our groups nice and small, so we run the trips with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10.
WHAT IS A HUSKY SAFARI?
We visit a local husky farm where we will be taken on a ride through the forest. You will be divided into 2, and you will have your own 6 dog team on your sled. One of you will drive half the journey, the other will sit in the sled, then you swap round. We will have lunch in the middle of the forest, allowing you time to spend with your dogs, and a chance to find out more about the life of a sled dog. Then you will drive your team back to farm where you will go and meet some puppies. The dogs are super friendly and love human interaction.
WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE?
You will be cooked for in the cabin for the week by one of the guides, except for two evenings where you can go try one of the local restaurants and the final evening when the group eats out. The food will home made and using local produce. We will cook some traditional Finnish meals, and eat most of our lunches around the fire. Breakfasts will be buffet style/help yourself and we will have a big dinner together each night.
DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE?
Yes, travel insurance is a must. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance to cover you for all aspects of this trip, including cancellation.
CAN I COME ON MY OWN?
Yes of course - most people that join us do! It’s a great trip to meet new like-minded friendly people.
HOW FIT DO I HAVE TO BE?
You need to have a good level of fitness and be happy to be outdoors for 5-6 hours in the day. The conditions can be very testing so you need to be able to manage your layers in the cold too.
What If I don’t want to do an activity?
All the activities are optional, you are more than welcome to opt out of any of them and explore the surroundings yourself or enjoy a day in the cabin. As we have a base for the week there is no pressure to join us with activities.
