Any other questions? (FAQ)
Where do we meet for the Kungsleden hike?
We meet at our accommodation in Abisko, the starting point of the iconic Kungsleden trail in Swedish Lapland. On the first day, we’ll gather at 5pm for a short welcome meeting where you’ll meet your guide and group, and go through the plan, weather conditions, and route for the week ahead.
Where do we finish THE TRIP?
Our final night is spent in Nikkaluokta. From here, there are typically two daily buses to Kiruna, giving you flexibility on your onward travel depending on your plans.
How do I get there?
By train (our recommended option):
Travel to Stockholm
Take the overnight train to Abisko
Train tickets are usually released around 3 months before departure. Before this, it may appear as though services are fully booked - this is normal.
By plane:
Fly to Kiruna Airport
Continue by train or bus to Abisko
WHAT SHOULD MY hiking ABILITY BE?
You’ll need a good level of hiking fitness and be comfortable carrying a 12–15kg backpack over varied terrain. We typically cover between 12–20km per day, so you should be used to walking these kinds of distances for multiple consecutive days.
WHAT WILL THE GROUP SIZE BE?
We keep our groups nice and small, so we run the trips with a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 9.
WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE?
Food is expedition-style (dehydrated meals) to keep packs light for the week.
We provide a range of options, but we recommend bringing your own snacks around 400–500 calories per day to keep your energy levels up on the trail. You can buy more from the cabins as they have a small shop which sells snacks.
DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE?
Yes, travel insurance is essential. It is your responsibility to ensure you are fully covered for all aspects of the trip, including cancellation.
CAN I COME ON MY OWN?
Yes of course, It’s a great trip to meet new like minded people. Our small group Kungsleden hikes are designed to be friendly and inclusive, making them a great way to meet new friends while exploring one of Sweden’s most iconic long-distance trails.
