Trip requirements

This is a challenging trip so you will need to have previous hiking experience on different terrains you will need to:

  • have the ability to hike 20+ km along a trail with a backpack of around 10-15kg

  • You need to be in good shape and be comfortable with camping each night in variable conditions.

  • You need to be happy traveling in a group and have a good sense of adventure

WHERE DO we meet?

We will meet you at our accommodation in Jokkmokk at 4pm on the first day of the trip. We will also spend the last night here so you will leave on the morning of the final day of the trip.

How do I get there?

The most environmentally friendly option is by train :

  1. Go to Stockholm

  2. From there you take the night train to Boden or Murjek

  3. From Boden or Murjek you have bus connection to Jokkmokk

Book the train and the bus on the same ticket at: www.vy.se/en

Train tickets are usually not released until approx. 3 months prior to departure. Before that it may look as if everything is sold out/fully booked and the connecting local buses may not even be in the search results yet.

By plane

You can travel part of the way by plane and continue by bus and/or train.

  1. Travel to Stockholm

  2. Fly from Stockholm to Luleå, Gällivare, Arvidsjaur or Kiruna

  3. Continue by bus and/or train to Jokkmokk

You can then book your bus and or train tickets with SJ or VY and visit Länstrafiken Norrbotten for timetables for the buses.

From Luleå Airport to Jokkmokk there is an airport shuttle run by Länstrafiken Norrbotten.

What time do we need to arrive?

We meet at 4pm on the first day of the trip and you are free to leave anytime on the final day of the trip as there are no activities planned.

WHAT SHOULD MY hiking ABILITY BE?

You need to have a good level of hiking fitness and be able to carry a 12-15kg backpack on undulating terrain for the week. Each day will vary due to conditions and our guide’s route choice so you need to be comfortable hiking up to 20km a day.

WHAT WILL THE GROUP SIZE BE?

We keep our groups nice and small, so we run the trips with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7.

WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE?

It will be expedition-style food (dehydrated meals) as we will be carrying it for the week so need to keep it light. We try to provide a variety of options. Please bring your own snacks for the trip, roughly 400-500 calories worth each day.

DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE? 

Yes, travel insurance is a must. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance to cover you for all aspects this trip, including cancellation.

CAN I COME ON MY OWN? 

Yes of course, It’s a great trip to meet new like minded people.
